Gentle Giraffes Team ~ Maritza

Maritza Gomez

Maritza is a certified Newborn Care Specialist and previously worked as a bilingual nanny for seven years. Her interest in parental support during the newborn stage began when her younger cousins were born. With family visits turning into teaching opportunities, it allowed her a glimpse into the world of guiding new parents through the fourth trimester. During her time in college, she studied Psychology and Linguistics, focusing on Child and Language development. Later she went on to manage a child development research lab at Princeton University. She took her knowledge of child development into the nanny field and followed her passion in working with children.

As a nanny, Maritza enjoyed getting to know each child’s personality, finding fun adventures throughout the city, and letting them take the lead when it came to learning new things. She used her understanding of Gentle Parenting and Respectful Care to give space to emotions and setting boundaries. As a Newborn Care Specialist, she believes in treating children with respect since their first day, allowing infants to express themselves and teach us their hunger and sleep cues. Maritza’s ability to take charge, when necessary, as well as taking a step back as needed, has allowed her to work comfortably with family members and visitors in the home.
